HOUDA BENSEBAA هدى بنسبع

(b. in 1998) in Casablanca, a graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Marseille. Her practice is rooted in photography, focusing on the documentation of herself through the continuous montage of images from her family albums. She also extends her work to writing and poetry. Her practice interrogates the sacralized representations of functional female bodies in collective memory, Christian iconography, and within the family as an institution. Her primary medium is memory: "I document, fragment, and reenact my intimate life story and all the silence, pushing the figures to exhaustion and disappearance, in order to understand and place this closet story within the larger history." She presented her work in a solo exhibition at L’Atelier Blanc in Arles (2023), curated by Florent Basiletti, and as part of an open studio at Triangle Astérides, invited by Mouhawalat Collective (2023). Alongside her artistic practice, she is also involved in exhibition curation. She co-curated the collective exhibition Peupler les plis at Le Sample (April 2024), in collaboration with the Seine-Saint-Denis Departmental Collection of Contemporary Art, and participated in the curation of Waterbed at Sissi Club (November 2024).
